Claimant fraud is the most prevalent type of fraud. It is also the type that employers are in the best position to help avoid or uncover. Claimant fraud occurs when employees knowingly lie to collect benefits or obtain employment.
We review the history of clients claims they have previously incurred. Consistently, we find claims that could have been avoided by utilizing our services. We do not want our clients to discriminate, and advise it is against the law to do so. Applicants, not subject to hiring laws, are not always truthful with potential employers about their, ss#, legal name, prior work history, etc.
Our research illustrates, on average, over 20% of workers’ compensation claims filed against employers come from individuals who’ve had prior workers’ compensation claims. The average cost of claims from these employees is typically double and the total dollar amount incurred makes up approximately 50-60% of the total money spent.
We help provide information about applicants so Employers are able to learn about who they are hiring, thus placing them in the right position. Clients have referred to our report as an “Integrity Check”.
Oklahoma workers compensation reform states “Except as otherwise provided by state or federal law . . . an employer may inquire about previous workers’ compensation claims paid to an employee while the employee was employed by a previous employer. If the employee fails to answer truthfully about any previous permanent partial disability awards made pursuant to workers’ compensation claims, the employee shall be subject to discharge by the employer.”
